Runner (2026) Movie Review Transcript: Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson’s Action Thriller

A new movie in theaters called Runner

This weekend we got a new movie in theaters called Runner. Not to be confused with The Runner, starring Gal GADAU, which is on Amazon Prime and not very good. When it comes to Runner, I actually enjoyed this movie.

It is a buddy action movie starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson. And this is very much my kind of movie. I love action movies. I'm a big fan of the show Reacher. This is Alan Richson very much in his wheelhouse playing this courier that has to deliver an organ by a deadline and he's being chased by mob guys trying to gain access to it. and he's partnered up with Owen Wilson, an actor that I have been a big fan of since he first showed up in Armageddon back in 1998 and that it was solidified that I find him incredibly charming and funny when he was partnered with Jackie Chan in Shanghai Noon and now he's partnered with Reacher himself. Now, the thing about this movie that was surprising to me is that it's much less of an action comedy than I was expecting. Absolutely. Owen Wilson brings some levity to the film, but it's all about his personality, his character, more so than overt jokes.

This isn't really an action comedy. It's an action thriller. It's a movie that has quite a bit of emotional dramatic weight to it. As you're watching the movie, there is a small child waiting for an organ to keep her alive. So, you're watching a child in horrible condition, barely surviving. Like, that's the ticking clock for the movie. Will this child die? And other things happen in the movie that are actually, you know, hit pretty hard, much more so than I was expecting from a movie, you know, with Owen Wilson partnered with Alan Richardson. It's not the silly version of the premise. It's the more serious version of it. On the action level, not that this is like a super groundbreaking action movie, but the action's shot in a way that's actually pretty interesting. There's a lot of kind of like wide angle lenses up close and so you feel really involved with the action but in a way where you can see everything taking place. The angles uh the the takes are a little bit longer and so it's not cut to pieces.

You can really see the choreography

You can really see the choreography. There's some cool ones in the chase sequences in the car where the camera's like going between vehicles. So just some interesting work. It's not defurious or anything like that, but well done for this kind of movie. It's not breaking any new ground on a plot level. It's the sort of movie that we've kind of seen before and and similar sorts of things, but you're going to this movie for the actors, for the genre, for the action. And on that front, it delivers. If you're an action movie fan, if you like these actors, I think it delivers the experience that you expect from the trailer. So, this is one I had a good time
